Welcome!

chesapeake alerion is the home page of the Alerion Express 28 Chesapeake Bay Fleet. Members from both the Eastern and western shores of the mid-Bay region share a passion for sailing the "prettiest lady at the dance." We get together at least once a year to enjoy some casual racing and more serious partying. This site includes recaps and photo collections of our last three Rendezvous. Enjoy!

2008 Rendezvous'

Hold the dates for two rendezvous’ of the Alerion Express 28 Chesapeake Bay Fleet this year. The Spring outing will be held on the last day of that season, Saturday, June 21st. Don Goodliffe will again be hosting that rendezvous at his home on Plaindealing Creek following an afternoon of casual racing in the Tred Avon River off of Oxford.

The Fall get-together is scheduled for Saturday, September 6th. One of our newest fleet members, Bill Smith, who sails Gabrielle, hull number 141, will be our host at his home on the Severn River at the western end of the Academy Bridge (Route 450). We’ll sail up the Severn, around St. Helena Island and back to Bill’s house. Garth Hichens and his crew from Annapolis Yacht Sales will be co-hosting the event.

The fastest boat at each regatta will take home an engraved, silver plate commemorating the achievement as well as have their boats’ names engraved on the Hoyt perpetual trophy. As we get closer to the dates, check this site for additional details on each day’s activities.

The Links section includes the site of the San Francisco Bay Alerion Express 28 Fleet. This Fleet has a very active racing and social program. I urge you to check out its site for some fantastic photos of Alerions in heavier weather. If you're interested in learning more about the boat itself, this site is a good resource.

The Alerion Express site is the manufacturer's marketing site for the boat and so has very complete information on the Alerion Express 28 and other Alerions in the product line. Last year, Annapolis Yacht Sales was appointed the mid-Atlantic dealer for the full line of Alerion sailboats. The Boatyard Bar and Grill is a sailor's hangout in Annapolis and its owner, Dick Franyo, has the good taste to also own an Alerion. SpinSheet is a must-read publication for serious Bay sailors and the site's not too shabby either.
