Welcome!
chesapeake alerion is the home page of the Alerion Express 28 Chesapeake Bay Fleet. Members from both the Eastern and western shores of the mid-Bay region share a passion for sailing the "prettiest lady at the dance." We get together at least once a year to enjoy some casual racing and more serious partying. This site includes recaps and photo collections of our prior Rendezvous'. Enjoy!
Events - Recent and Upcoming
The Chesapeake Bay Fleet's annual Rendezvous was held on Saturday, June 18th. While our return to Herrington Harbor South didn't produce those same great winds we enjoyed four years ago, there was plenty of sailing to be found. See the recap and photos here.
Over dinner, we discussed another opportunity to sail in the company of others - the Boatyard Bar & Grill Regatta and Battle of the Chesapeake to benefit CRAB. This year's event will be held on Saturday, August 27th. It features a pursuit style race where a boat's starting time is tied to its actual or estimated PHRF rating (highest rated, slowest boats start first) so it's level racing thereafter, first to finish wins. Last year, the AE28s Juice and Skimmer participated and had a great race within a race with Skimmer edging out Juice to take Alerion honors. The entry fee both supports a worthwhile cause and gets you an invite to Eastport Yacht Clubs blowout post-race dinner and party. For more information, follow this link.
New Members
Welcome to our newest members. Dan Attridge sails Blue Moon, hull number 400, out of Annapolis while Mike Craft has hull number 209, his as-yet-unnamed Alerion, at the Baltimore Marine Center in Baltimore harbor. Jim Kizziar has purchased Allen Hettleman's Mimi, hull number 296, and will sail and race her out of Annapolis as Escape. Rumor has it the Allen is moving up to an AE33. We look forward to seeing Dan, Mike, Jim and Allen on the water this season.
Links
The Links section includes the site of the San Francisco Bay Alerion Express 28 Fleet. This Fleet has a very active racing and social program. I urge you to check out its site for some fantastic photos of Alerions in heavier weather. If you're interested in learning more about the boat itself, this site is a good resource.
The Alerion Express site is the manufacturer's marketing site for the boat and so has very complete information on the Alerion Express 28 and other Alerions in the product line. The Boatyard Bar & Grill is a sailor's hangout in Annapolis and its owner, Dick Franyo, has the good taste to also own an Alerion. SpinSheet is a must-read publication for serious Bay sailors and the site's not too shabby either.
