2005 Fleet Rendezvous Recap
July 15, 2005
The Alerion Express 28 Chesapeake Bay Fleet held its first rendezvous and racing regatta on the the eastern Shore on July 9. Five Alerions, eight owners and six guests gathered for casual yet competitive racing followed by a crab feast. The racing took place on the Tred Avon River near Oxford and the "after party" was hosted by Don and Judie Goodliffe at their cottage on Plaindealing Creek in Royal Oak.
Three Eastern Shore-based boats, Forever (John and Barbara Murphy), Frolic (Paul and Susan Rohrkemper) and Miss Judie (Don and Judie Goodliffe, were joined by Rosebud (Bob Gallagher) and Even Trade (Ware Palmer) who had single-handed from their western shore ports to join the rendezvous. Bob and Deirdre Bradway, Bob Spann and Beth Whiteley left their boats on the western shore but joined in to serve as crew or race committee.
Two races were held in light southwesterlies on the Tred Avon course. Frolic sailed to a 2-1 record and first overall. Rosebud posted a 1-3 to finish second overall followed by Miss Judie with a 3-2 record.
After the races, the fleet sailed to the Goodliffe's place on Plaindealing Creek and rafted off their dock. Crabs with all the fixings and plenty of liquid refreshment capped a great day. All in attendance agreed that another rendezvous was in order.
